WAYS OF STORING HASH AND PRACTICAL ADVICE
Excellent and correct storage of hashish is essential for preserving its properties, a prerequisite for its consumers.
We mean legal hashish if it contains less than 0.5% tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) in Europe, the substance on which the psychoactive effect of cannabis depends.

This article will indicate the most effective methods for proper storage, distinguished according to their duration: short, medium and long term.
In addition, we will explain what is required for proper post-harvest tanning and how to avoid the formation of mould.
Short-term storage
Short-term storage means less than one week. However, when you intend to use the hash within a few days, it is advisable to store it in a small container, preferably made of silicone, so that not too much air can pass through it, as oxygen can damage the quality of the hash.
Medium-term storage
When you intend to store your hash for more extended periods (around thirty days), it is best to use an airtight container. Once divided into pieces, these should be wrapped in greaseproof paper and then put in a plastic bag. As we have said on several occasions, it will lose its properties if it becomes damp. Therefore, the hash (including CBD hash) should be in an optimal state, neither too wet nor too dry.
Long-term storage
If the hashish is stored for more than a month, it should be placed in a vacuum container to prevent condensation and slow down ageing, an inevitable process that alters its quality to some extent; ageing reduces the level of THC, which is converted into another cannabinoid, CBN. The taste is also changed, becoming more bitter.
Another way of storing hashish for a long time is to freeze it, which allows it to be adequately stored for about a year. However, this process is very delicate: before storing it in the freezer, all the air must be extracted to prevent mould and fungus from appearing.
It should be thawed very slowly before consumption, as a sudden change in temperature could damage it.
Where and how to store hashish
In any case, whether it is stored for a short, medium or long time, it is necessary to store the hashish in a cool place with a temperature below 25.5° C to prevent mould from forming. In addition, the storage environment should always remain clean, dry (to prevent the hashish from absorbing too much moisture), and dark.
Each jar should be filled to ¾ full so that there is enough space and stored in airtight glass or ceramic containers. Plastic is not recommended as it can accelerate the ageing process of the substance.
How to make a good tanning
Tanning, i.e., storing the product in airtight containers for an extended period, is an essential step in safeguarding the quality of hashish or CBD cannabis.
As we explained earlier, once the hashish has been collected in an airtight container with a humidity level of between 60 and 65%, it should be kept in the dark, cool place.
A good tanning process can take between four and eight weeks, during which time it is critical to ‘air out’ the hash, which is done by emptying the jars and then filling them after a few minutes and closing them tightly. As the weeks go by, this procedure should be carried out more and more rarely.
Avoiding mould
Mould formation is far from pleasant, both in cannabis foods and hashish, but unfortunately, it is widespread and particularly troublesome. If the product is not stored correctly, mould may appear within a few weeks! So, here are some tips to prevent its formation:
- Ensure proper air circulation to prevent moisture accumulation.
- Avoid over-watering the seedling.
- Dry and season the product correctly: the room where it is stored should ideally have a humidity of 35% and a temperature of 12° C.
- Avoid airtight containers.
- Avoid hot places.
- Minimise the impact of environmental factors.
When hashish becomes mouldy, it is best to get rid of it immediately. However, some recommend that you do not throw it in the rubbish bin but instead heat it at a temperature of 95° C for 15 minutes because the mould will not survive temperatures above 60° C.
However, the best choice is not to take unnecessary risks and avoid using hashish if you notice any signs of inadequate storage.

Conclusions
In conclusion, we can say that there are many ways to store hashish properly for personal use.
Although storage times may vary depending on the type of use, some rules are to follow. Choosing the appropriate containers or sachets available online and choosing a room to store the hashish away from light, heat, and prying eyes are undoubtedly essential and mandatory requirements.
